Susan Gransby was born in London, England and lives in Burnaby, B.C., Canada. She is a Canadian citizen. Susan graduated in with a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of British Columbia in 1969 and with an Honours Diploma in Printmaking from the Vancouver School of Art in 1979. She spent several years as a reporter, copy and layout editor and assistant art editor for the Vancouver Sun newspaper before starting work at the Malaspina Printmakers Studio in 1983. She has served on the Malaspina board and as a board member/trustee of the Burnaby Art Gallery. Her etchings, reduction linocuts, monotypes and mixed media works have been shown across Canada and in juried exhibitions in Japan, Spain, Finland, Peru and the United States. Susan’s works are in the collections of the Vancouver Art Gallery, Canada Council Art Bank, Burnaby Art Gallery, Richmond Art Gallery and the Simon Fraser University collection as well as corporate collections including IBM, TD Bank, VanCity Savings, The Salient Group and NCR. Her work has been commissioned for CP and Westin International Hotels in Calgary, Los Angeles and Victoria in addition to Vancouver’s Waterfront Centre Hotel. She has also served on juries for public art commissions. Writing, editing and curating exhibitions such as 'The Relief Print’ and ‘Layers: Print and Beyond’ at the Burnaby Art Gallery and ‘Urban Echoes’ at the Firehall Arts Centre fulfil other aspects of her lifelong interest in the visual arts. Urban and industrial structures and architecture are primary interests with images and impressions filtered through both recollection and imagination to reflect her personal experience. Leading Canadian art historian and gallery director Roger Boulet had described Susan’s work as “a refreshingly uncomplicated vision with a relaxed and easy intimacy.”
