Malaspina Printmakers is pleased to present David Khang’s exhibition The tank, the poem, and the uniform. The exhibition examines various colonial histories through new work that expands on performances and installations he created over the past ten years. The printed triptych, diptychs, postcards, and game board reference the game Monopoly through their use of colour, composition, and graphics. By replacing the content of Monopoly with new content including depictions of military characters and slogans relating to historical events of national and international conflict, Khang draws attention to the relationship between militia, capitalism, colonialism, gameplay, and propaganda.

David Khang was born in Seoul, grew up in Toronto, and currently resides in Vancouver, where he is Adjunct Faculty at the Emily Carr University. Recent solo and group exhibitions include A Space (Toronto), Articule (Montreal), Plug In ICA (Winnipeg), the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (Santiago), and the Museo Ex Teresa Arte Actual (Mexico City).
