Spend relaxed, hands-on time in the darkroom exploring, printing, and experimenting at your own pace. This individualized session is guided by your experience, interests, and creative process — whether you’re new to the space or looking to refresh your past skills and workflow.

During this session, you will:

  • Receive a personalized, bookable, individual introduction to the darkroom at Malaspina Printmakers Society.

  • Receive practical, hands-on guidance in chemical safety and darkroom workflow procedures available.

  • Explore printing, or digital printing with guidance tailored to your skill level, goals and interests.

  • Ask questions freely as they arise and receive hands-on support throughout the session.

Who this is for:

  • Individuals new to the Malaspina Darkroom Residency who want a guided introduction to the space, equipment, chemical use, printing, and safety procedures.

  • Returning users looking for a workflow refresher or a clearer understanding, with supervised hands on use of the tools and processes available to access in the studio.

  • Anyone who wants to feel confident and prepared to work independently in the darkroom or digital printing facilities.

No prior darkroom experience is required — the session adapts to your skill level and goals through prior communication.

Black & white chemicals are included. Bring your own paper, we can discuss materials or specialized tools needed when booking. Standard paper is available to buy in the studio for $2 per sheet.

Outcome:
Gain confidence and hands on familiarity with the studio, darkroom equipment, workflow, and safe practices — enabling you to continue developing and printing independently in a shared, community supported environment.

Once purchased, Tiara will follow up to arrange a time and date.

Tiara Adams is a Vancouver-based multi-disciplinary artist working across street photography, image-making, filmmaking, and painting. Her practice focuses on observing everyday moments and allowing images to evolve through digital and analogue processes and painterly experimentation, embracing the unpredictable and fleeting nature of life.

She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in New Media and a Diploma in Multimedia Production, and has experience on large-scale film productions as a union Camera Assistant and Loader. Alongside her artistic work, Tiara mentors others through hands-on learning, shared collaboration, and community-based approaches to image-making.
