Single Day Workshop Paper Stencil Screen Printing

Come learn how to screen print using paper cut stencils!

This workshop is a fun and hands-on introduction to screen printing. You’ll learn how to create a stencil from cut paper and use it to make bold, graphic prints. By the end, you’ll have up to 10 single-colour prints or 5 two-colour prints of your own design.

This accessible technique allows for a wide range of styles and imagery, and it doesn’t require specialized equipment—making it easy to continue experimenting at home or in your personal studio. Whether you’re brand new to printmaking or just looking for a lighthearted, creative activity, this workshop is for you!

Val Loewen (she/her)

Val Loewen (she/her) is a Vancouver based artist living and practicing on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) nations. Her practice is based primarily in print media and intersects with other material based methodologies through which she investigates ideas of transformational narratives and visual histories. Her work has been exhibited in Canada, the United States, and Japan and she received her BFA from NSCAD University in 2012. 

She has practised as a collaborative artist, instructor, and print media technician at various printmaking centres in Vancouver since 2012, including the Art History and Visual Arts department at UBC, the Print and Publishing Festival in Dawson City Yukon, Mobil Art School in Vancouver, and at Malaspina Printmakers Society. She is currently the Studio Access and Equity Manager at Malaspina Printmakers Society where she works collaboratively with artists and community members to facilitate the exploration of print media.
