This 2 hour workshop introduces participants to the full cyanotype process, including the origins of the practice, chemistry preparation, paper coating, and UV exposure. Cyanotype is the historic photographic printing method, best known for its deep blue colour and the basis for the first blueprints of building schematics. It is now used in many creative ways, as its simplicity and accessibility allows for so much exploration. Students will create their own prints using the photosensitive chemistry, sunlight, plants, lace and other intricate or textured materials. Everyone will leave with several finished art pieces and the knowledge of how to continue this art practice on their own. All materials will be provided, no experience needed.

Nicole is a photographer and mixed-media artist drawn to the contrast and depth of black and white photography that allow the details to reveal themselves slowly. She likes to let the shadows, textures and simple forms speak for themselves. This is also apparent in her digital illustrations, while much more vibrant than her black and white photography, the intriguing forms allow the viewer to create their own narrative and draw their own conclusions. Alongside photography and illustration, she enjoys exploring alternative processes such as cyanotype, chemogram, and lumen printing, enjoying the way these methods mix experimentation with chance. Meghan is an artist who works in photography, clay and other hands-on processes. Inspired by nature and tactile materials, she enjoys exploring texture, form and simple experimentation. Her practice is rooted in curiosity and continuously exploring new ways to bring her artwork to life. In workshops she focuses on guiding participants through techniques, while encouraging a relaxed, nature-inspired approach that allows new artists to explore what speaks them and bring out their own unique style.
