Amy Pelletier, examines the psychology of collectors and the compulsion of collecting through her recent body of digital prints in which images of objects from collections are layered to create strange new forms. Pelletier’s artistic practice is based in the curation and arrangement of collected objects resulting in forms that provide insight into theoretical circumstances and anthropomorphized scenes. Through Collector Pelletier questions notions of beauty and value, the amassing of images and the way in which the individual object gains meaning through the set to which it belongs.

To make Collector Pelletier will photograph each individual item from purchased collections against a white background. She will then digitally assemble each collection layering them on top of one another, creating new forms from the group. Each large photographic print will then represent one collection purchased from one collector that becomes available, as a work of art, to be collected once again and reinserted into another collection.

Amy Pelletier is a Vancouver based artist. She received her Bachelor of Media-Arts from Emily Carr University in 2005. Her work has been exhibited in Vancouver, Toronto and New York and she has curated a number of exhibitions in Vancouver. She is the recent recipient of a B.C Council for the Arts grant for her project Collector.
