Born in Calgary, Elisabeth Sommerville graduated from the Alberta College of Art in 1963 and moved to Vancouver where she established and ran her own award-winning graphic design company, Sommergraphics. Approaching retirement, she studied printmaking at UBC and learned the complex technique of stone lithography at Malaspina Printmakers Studio, where she continued to work for over twenty years. She now works from her home studio doing egg tempera paintings and coloured pencils to produce her realistic artworks, mostly of birds and landscapes. Elisabeth is a senior member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, the Society of Canadian Artists and recently of the world-wide Artists for Conservation. Elisabeth’s Métis heritage likely engendered her love of nature, visible in her artwork which is in collections in Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and U.S.A.
