Malaspina Printmakers is pleased to present an exhibition of graphic art and prints by Ayşegül İzer and Emre Senan. This exhibition is an opportunity to view recent work from Istanbul produced by two Professors of Art at the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University.

Ayşegül Izer’s work explores notions of the imagined space of the city. Using her work to create a “personal parallel path” to Italio Calvino’s Invisible Cities, Izer invokes the process of imaginative formation and re-formation through memory and experience. Her work takes the form of partially abstract screen-prints with hand embellishments often incorporating text and collage. Every piece is unique yet connected to the others.

Emre Senan’s work, both design and visual art, sees the relationship between each practice as fluid and supportive. He creates prints of imagined characters derived from his collection of drawings created while in meetings. There is a strong element of humour, fun and play within his work. Senan has worked in poster design, animation, cartoons, corporate identification campaigns and video in addition to printmaking.

Emre Senan is a Professor of Graphic Arts and Izer is a Professor of Fine Art, both at the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. Izer works in painting, printmaking and collage and has received more than 10 international awards. Senan’s work has been exhibited internationally and has also won numerous awards. Senan is currently developing the Emre Senan Foundation of Design.
