Denise Tonner was born in 1955, in Vancouver, Canada. She has been a printmaker for 20 years and has sold hundreds of original monotypes, etchings and digital prints through printmaking studios in Vancouver. In addition to being an artist, she has a degree in linguistics and worked for 30 years as an ESL instructor at UBC and overseas in Japan and Vietnam. That work has given her a fascination for languages and cultures. Currently, she is creating reduction monotypes based on photos and illustrations from the mid-1800’s to 1930.
