This planographic printmaking process does magic with grease and water and is known to be challenging to master. The workshop will teach you the basics of the ‘chemische druckerei’ invented by Alois Senefelder and will allow you to continue to explore stone lithography by yourself in the studio after completion.
You’ll be guided through the basics of hand graining the stone, drawing with special lithographic crayons and pencils, the etching stages in order to fix the drawing in your stone and printing on paper in black ink with the use of a classic lithographic press. The delicacy and expressive character of the produced lines and surfaces are stunning; something that can’t be achieved by any other traditional printmaking technique.

Be prepared for a physical, immersive journey and get to understand the basics of this magical technique!


Saskia Jetten (She/Her)

Your instructor Saskia Jetten operates her studio and print shop on the Sunshine Coast, BC and has extensive (international) teaching experience as art educator and instructor printmaking at university and college level. Her art breathes printmaking in prints, hand made books, installation and animation showcased internationally for over 30 years. Characteristic for her way of working is the constant quest for renewal and challenge in the use and concept of printmaking. Her print work and drawings are acknowledged by (inter)national grants and prizes.
