This one day workshop will introduce participants to monoprinting and block printing techniques through the creation of unique hand printed greeting cards. Working with water based inks and cotton rag paper, each participant will be guided through the process of designing and creating an overall pattern and design motif. These patterns and motifs can then be assembled in different and creative ways to fabricate at least six distinct and original prints on greeting card stationary.

The processes involved include carving and printing a linoleum block and assembling a patterned image using various monoprinting techniques. The techniques learned in this workshop can be applied to at home studios (printing without a press) or to working on a press in a shared printmaking studio.

Sherida Charles is a graduate of UBC Fine Arts (BFA ’86) and Art Education (BEd ’91) who has been working as an Art teacher for over 25 years. In 2020 she left public school teaching to focus on her Art making exclusively, and has been working out of Howe Street Studios for the past two years.  She exhibits her paintings and prints at Culture Crawls in New Westminster.   She specializes in multicolour reduction linocuts, but has also worked with silkscreen, woodcut, monoprinting, drawing and painting, clay and mixed media.
