student scholarshipMalaspina awards scholarships to students in the form of free studio rent. The four month scholarships take place from May to August while the eight month scholarships take place from September to April. The four month scholarships are intended for students returning to their studies in the fall. The eight month scholarships are aimed at assisting recent graduates with their transition to becoming a practicing artist. We welcome applications from indiviudals from outside of Vancouver; however, we cannot contribute funding for accommodation or travel.
A jury will select the successful applicants based on a combination of factors, including the significance of their print-based artwork within the discourse of contemporary art and cultural theory. We encourage applications from art students who use print media within the scope of other practices or who approach print from an inventive and experimental perspective. We do not attempt to define print media or printmaking, rather we leave this expanding discipline open to interpretation.
