Catherine Stewart’s exquisitely detailed photographs and prints examine parallels between human and animal, science and art, and even fashion and nature. The vibrant colours and patterns of bird feathers recall textile designs, with a similar intention to attract and impress.
Stewart has a BSc from the University of Toronto and a MFA from the University of British Columbia. She has exhibited in Canada and Europe, including at the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences at the University of Cambridge, the Glasgow Science Centre, the Beaty Biodiversity Museum at the University of British Columbia, and the Elissa Cristall Gallery in Vancouver. Her numerous awards include recognition in several international miniature print exhibitions: including the British International Miniature Print Exhibition, the International Biennial of Miniature Art in Poland, and the Biennial International Miniprint Exhibition (BIMPE) in Vancouver. She has worked with printmakers in Canada, the Netherlands, and Japan, and has been involved with Malaspina Printmakers for many years, as an artist, an instructor, and a board member.
