archivesOne of the most significant endeavors undertaken by the Centre is the Malaspina Printmakers Archives. From its earliest days, artists renting studio space have been contributing one print from every edition to the archives. The collection and documentation of prints produced in the Studio have been carried on to this day and now form a valuable historical record of printmaking in British Columbia over the past 30 years. The first section of the Archives (dated 1975-82) was purchased by Fei and Milton Wong and generously donated to the City of Burnaby and are housed at the Burnaby Art Gallery. Over the years, several exhibitions have been drawn from this archive including the Malaspina Printmakers 25th Anniversary Exhibition in 2000. Subsequently, a consortium of six art patrons purchased the Archive dating from 1982-88 and donated the collection to the Simon Fraser Gallery at Simon Fraser University. The gallery conserves the prints in a proper storage area and exhibits them on a continuous basis throughout SFU. This collection is also available to curators and other interested parties. We are currently housing the 1988-2005 Archive, which comprises approximately 1500 prints. |
