Joseph Montague is an interdisciplinary artist and educator based in Vancouver. Born in Montreal, Montague moved to Vancouver in 1968. He studied at Langara College, The University of British Columbia, and the Vancouver School of Art. In 1979 he moved to New York, where he continued to study printmaking, while working different jobs at the Pratt Graphics Center, the Guggenheim Museum, and Watanabe Studio Ltd.
Returning to Vancouver in 1992, he has continued to work in a variety of media, and his work The Fountain of Time won the public art competition for Library Square in 1995. His work has been exhibited in Canada and the United States, and internationally.
